Toddlers are so much fun! They are cute, silly, witty and they say the most adorable things. I’ve had the great pleasure of watching this little doll grow up. The first time I photographed her was at HER newborn session. She and my daughter, Sarah have a very special bond and I love it when she helps me during sessions. Many of the adorable expressions you see here are elicited from my favorite studio helper. First, I’ll share a quick collage of a few favorites from the light purple and white backgrounds.
And here are a few more of my favorites. (It really was difficult for me to select a “few” favorites). As is true to tradition, her mom found adorable outfits, shoes, hair accessories and for little brother… an adorable hat!
And finally, one last one of baby brother!
Thanks for stopping by! It’s so fun for me to share these favorites. I really do love my job! Babies are great, big people are too but toddlers really hold a special place in my heart. I know that toddler photography is not for everyone. I think my small stature and fun nature really helps set the tone with these little people. My teaching background also helps us create a bond. Bring on those 18months to 5 year olds!!!!

LOL, I have more fun in the studio with these babies! Even boys at the young age of 9 months old love goofy noises. I think this little man is so accustomed to having his big brother around that everything is fun. He was busy, curious and silly the entire photo session. I loved it! He also sat still for us for a few minutes. Truly a photographer’s dream.
Today I want to share a few of my favorites in the collage. Can you just imagine his big belly laugh when you look at the center square image below? He was wiggling in the rocking chair and interacting with us; showing his silly side.
I also want to share his mom’s favorite image from the session. I can understand why too. He just looks so happy and sweet all at the same time.
This baby boy is a member of the Baby’s First Year portrait plan, called Baby Steps. He visits the studio at the ages of 3, 6, 9 and 12 months and after that 1 year visit, he and his family will receive a framed, 10×20 portrait collage with one image from each session.
Alternately, some families on the Baby Plan opt for just 3 sessions at the ages of 3 or 4 months, then 6 or 7 months and finish up with the first birthday. Either plan is a GREAT way to celebrate baby’s first year and all the many changes that happen. The collage is the perfect wall art for showing each milestone baby reaches during the first 12 months.
Anyone who wishes to join the Baby Steps program should call the studio before the baby is 3 months old to schedule the appointment. Depending on your availability and our calendar, you may need up to 8 weeks to get your desired appointment day and time. We love babies and would love to meet yours!!!

Happy New Year!
I am happy to share some more high school senior photos, this time of the gorgeous Laura. We had an amazing evening and afternoon for this session. Due to the short daylight hours, we had to break this into two different days. The first part was shot just before and just after the sun set so I got to be creative with lighting.
Seniors have the option of multiple locations and outfits. It’s a great way to get variety. Don’t you love the outfits she selected? The earrings were purchased just for the occasion!
The first part of the session was shot at New Town, St. Charles and the latter part down on the riverfront. I love shooting at both locations. Every time I go to either place, I always find a new nooks and crannies and I get a new look for each senior. (Ok, there are a few spots that everyone wants, but I do try to change it up and make each session unique.)
Here’s one of the collages I created for purchase. It’s a 10×20 mounted portrait collage featuring four different images. My favorite shot is the one on the bridge. It was getting dark, so I had to stage this like a studio shot. Perfectly placed lights allowed us to get such dramatic results!

It’s time that I share some of the recent high school seniors I’ve been photographing! First up, Nikki from FHC. I’ve know her for many, many years. I had the privilege of photographing her sister two years ago too! Both girls were in my kids’ choir when I was working as the church Director of Music and Worship. 🙂
Nikki has grown into a beautiful young lady. Her smile is contagious and you can tell that we had a great time during her shoot. We went down to Main Street in St. Charles trying to hit different spots than we did with her sister. Of course, we made sure to include her dad’s bar in the background of a few images since those have great meaning for him.
The sky was such a GORGEOUS blue, I had to make sure to include it in at least some of our poses.
I know most of the yearbook deadlines have passed, but for those of you who want some fun, creative poses that you can’t get from the contract photographers, give us a call. There are still 2012 grads on the schedule for spring portraits.

Sigh… It’s hard to believe that another of my little baby plan babies has turned one. What’s even more difficult to comprehend is the fact that I photographed big sister throughout her first year and beyond. Time really does fly. It doesn’t matter if you’re watching your own children grow or some one else’s family. I guess that’s why my job is so important. I get to freeze a few moments every couple of months/years and preserve expressions, memories, chunky cheeks (and legs). I am so thankful to be a part of your lives. 🙂
This was a typical 1-year session. We got some formal poses, some informal ones, a few playing, some in the bucket and even a couple with big sis. I just love all the many expressions I got from her. (If memory serves correctly, it was probably my little helper, Sarah, who got all these expressions).

In celebration of baby Cooper’s arrival in a few hours, I thought I’d take a few minutes to share these beautiful maternity portraits from their session last month.
This gorgeous mom is a friend of mine whom I met at exercise class. We were all thrilled when they got pregnant and have enjoyed continuing our workouts throughout her pregnancy!
I love showcasing the beauty of a growing pregnant belly. We photographed this session in the studio in both casual clothes, wraps and fabrics. One of my favorite parts of the session was working with their older boy. He was so well-behaved and really such a cutie. I let him take MY picture and he did a pretty good job. (I should post that too – maybe on Facebook). He is so adorable, I’m sure he’ll make a terrific big brother.
A maternity session is not something that everyone wants to do, but I would like to insert a quick comment. I usually hear “I wish I had done maternity pictures” and I never, ever hear “I wish I hadn’t”. Just like the fleeting newborn days, pregnancy only lasts a short time (yes, I do remember that at times it feels like it’s forever, LOL). It’s a time that you probably want documented and a safe, private portrait session with a trained photographer is a wonderful way to beautifully capture this very special time.
It’s your choice what you wear and how much belly shows in your portraits. Your 8th month is an ideal time to photograph your growing belly. Give Karen a call today if you are pregnant and considering a maternity photo shoot. 636-947-5956

I just adore this little sweetie. My youngest daughter calls her “Ladybug”. Well, Ladybug is just about the happiest little baby I’ve ever met. She gave me smiles, smirks, silly faces, serious looks and pretty much everything in-between. These photos are from the first two of four sessions as part of the Baby Steps, Baby’s first year plan. Her color “theme” is bright colors so the collage photo for 3 months features a bright pink flower and a bright orange one in the 6 month pose.
So, first I’ll share a few of my favorites from the 6 month portrait session. I just love the hot pink beads with her bright flower headband! Nothing cuter that a little baby bootie, huh? That hat box belongs to the client’s family (I need one of those… I should probably get one before they are gone.) LOL That’s her pig and we thought it was SO cute when she was playing with it and the dress-up pearls. It was such a fun session!! Oh, and mom kept with the silver theme with another beautiful dress. I love it!
And here are a few from her 3 month photo shoot. Don’t you love her silver dress? It’s so nontraditional and absolutely adorable! I wanted a pose where the dress was completely visible. The last one was the perfect way to show it off and show her sweet smile! The 3 month photo session is often the toughest one for smiles and keeping baby’s attention. Thankfully, this was a very enjoyable session! Here she is…
Most baby plan participants select a 4-session plan. That means that I photograph four times between 3 months and 1 year. The 3 month milestone is when baby can hold her head high when resting on an incline or a parent’s shoulder. The 6 month milestone is when she can sit unassisted. Although, that white bowl will help an unsteady baby sit a little better than flat on the ground. Later on, at the 9 month session we celebrate standing while holding on, and at the 12 month we celebrate the first birthday! (Hopefully not walking! LOL)

Today I am sharing with you a very sweet little baby girl and her family. You’ll get to see her again since she is another baby on the Baby Steps, First Year plan. (Yes, pretty much all my babies are on the portrait plan. It’s a GREAT deal) First, is her 3 month photo session. In my opinion, that session is the toughest one of all the ages and stages. It really is rare to get smiles so I’m thrilled to have so many cute expressions from her. The other thing that makes it so tough is the fact that they no longer sleep curled up like a newborn but they cannot yet sit unassisted. Actually, it’s difficult for a 3 or 4 month baby to sit propped in a poser or basket!
So, here she is… showing off her strength. Look how well she holds up her head! Don’t you just love the purple and green together?
And, since I have frequently not kept up with the blog, I’ll share a few favorites from both the maternity and newborn photo shoots. I had a nice challenge photographing mom for the maternity since this is our second maternity session together. I wanted to give her unique poses yet make it familiar enough to coordinate with the first pregnancy. She’s such a beautiful mom and mom-to-be! Here’s a few of the proud dad too (who by the way is GREAT with the kids!)
I hear clients tell me all the time, “I wish I had gotten maternity portraits done”, or “I wish I had done this with the first pregnancy”. The thing is that you can never get those days back. You try to remember what it was like and how you looked. (Ok, some of the time, we try to forget), but for the most part, it is so important to have a memory of that special time. Look how quickly the days and months pass by. I’m preparing for that little girl’s 6 month session in the near future!
